Once a resident of nearby Brooklyn Heights, Lovecraft used his surrounding Brooklyn neighborhoods as the setting and inspiration for some of his most celebrated and macabre writings. Monday, July 21, the New York Obscura Society cordially invites you to join us for a candle-lit reading of H.P. Lovecraft's The Horror at Red Hook in its entirety. We'll be navigating our way through historic Green-Wood's winding pathways and elaborate memorials by lantern light, featuring several of the cemetery's most atmospheric locations along the way. Our evening exploration will culminate with a private cocktail reception by the Suydam mausoleum, typically locked and off-limits to the public.
Featuring local authors and enthusiasts of all things esoteric Clay McLeod Chapman and Bess Lovejoy along with historian Mitch Waxman and craft cocktails provided by the East Village's soon to be opened Lovecraft Bar, join us for an exclusive opportunity to see some of Green-Wood's most dramatic and rarely accessed burial spaces while indulging in the writing of one of horror literature's greatest authors in the very cemetery grounds he once walked.

We'll be meeting at 8pm at Green-Wood Cemetery's west entrance, located at the intersection of 9th Avenue and 20th Street, Brooklyn, NY. This is not the main entrance associated with the cemetery, please check your directions before heading out. There will be no admittance through the cemetery's 5th Avenue entrance.
Please be on time, the gates will be locked behind us shortly after our arrival and will remain locked until the conclusion of our event.
